The hybrid timber structure building was constructed from cross-laminated timber (CLT). The client was looking for a solution that was easy to assemble, light, weatherproof, UV resistant and easy to process. 

HoHo Wien, the second-tallest wooden high-rise building in the world after Mjøstårnet (note: in 2023, Ascent у США)Ascent in the USA was recognized as the tallest building), is made of renewable resources. The proportion of wood on the outside is 75 percent, and the ceilings and walls inside are made of spruce wood. Wood grows quickly and sequesters CO2 – two good reasons to use this raw material everywhere in the future.

Hoho Wien contains a hotel, apartments, restaurant, wellness center and offices. 

The tower, which is part of the HoHo Wien project, has a major advantage: many construction parts were assembled in a factory, where weather conditions can be ignored. As a result, numerous procedures were not carried out on the construction site itself. 

The design of HoHo Wien, which is deliberately "simple", consists of four ready-made building elements: pillars, beams, ceiling panels and facade elements. 

Why CLT?

The high degree of readiness of parts saves time on the construction site.

Exemplary environmental performance: compared to reinforced concrete construction, the use of wood avoids approximately 2,800 tons of CO2 equivalent. The construction method saves about 300,000 megawatts/hour of primary energy. This is approximately the amount of energy needed to heat a block of flats with 32 apartments for 1,100 years.

It's time to stop and no one wants to go home: new elements, combined with wood, a traditional material, create a relaxed and homely atmosphere.
